To continue our topic on Animal stories the children have been story mapping The Gruffalo and We’re going on a Bear Hunt. We have been writing for different purposes; labelling the features of the Gruffalo and writing lists and letters to characters from the stories. Our five little caterpillars turned into butterflies, the children were so enthralled by the transformation and loved watching them flutter around in their nets. We did discuss in circle time why it was important to let them go and what would happen to the life cycle once they were set free.
We have been busy preparing for the Royal wedding and learning the song and dance to Beauty and the Beast’s ‘Be our Guest’. We have made flags and are looking forward to the big day! Other things the children have been doing include building structures and houses using various tools outside, experimenting with dry and wet sand, pouring their own water and mixing with paint and using water colours and collage material to draw their own settings from our animal story books.
With just a week to go before half term, the children will be discussing and comparing the text ‘We’re going on a lion hunt’ set in Africa! Hopefully there will be lots of role play, imaginative play and dance!
